For this week's birthday CAS and paper casting technique challenges.
Forgive my shortcut, please. Before I retired, I had an opportunity to work as a teacher on summer assignment at a paper mill. Fabulous! Picture me in a hard hat and steel toe boots-- I learned LOTS about paper manufacturing and managed to contribute ideas about re-use of waste by-products of the paper recycling process. Eh, I'm a bit of an environmentalist...! So, I shared with my classes and the classes at outdoor school some of what I'd learned, and taught them how to create their own hand-made recycled paper. They really enjoyed tearing up old homework pages and referrals. I'd developed a liking for the process as well, and still do. Especially if I can shred bills or tax stuff. Craft therapy.
This panel, circle, and heart were part of my stash. I used a cookie press to create the heart.
btw, I'd observed a lesson using the toilet tissue process, and was disappointed. The final project was way too fragile, and I objected philosophically-- The "paper" was created from a new product, and not truly recycled. For sure, though, I'd not care much for creating paper from used tp!
Can you see some of the ink and print that survived the blender? The color on the circle and the heart are from the pigment of the original paper, and I'd added potpourri and dryer lint.

An outstanding job with the paper casting, Brenda!! I love your way of creating the paper, and your heart is beautiful! Actually, I thought that your way of making paper for paper casting was the only way. So, I learned something new with this challenge!

Like Bev I had never known any other way than the old fashioned pulverizing paper and re-pressing it into new recycled paper. I love the pieces you had in your stash and the combination into this card! The rough uneven edge of the background layer is so natural for the handmade paper. That heart is really the favorite with all the little bits you added to it. Gorgeous!

I have made my own paper as well and can appreciate the process. It has been a while, but this card is inspiring. I may have to break out my felt, screen, blender and paper scraps. This is especially gorgeous due to the tidbits and colors within the paper.

I am with you I am not sure I would want to use recycled TP in my crafting. Super card and love the paper. I went to an outdoor festival and got to see paper making and it was amazing. I totally want to make my own paper.

I'm glad you don't use recycled tp - I don't think that would be well received. I luv the speckles - much more interesting than plain white, also like the tearing at the base of the background. Very clever creation!
