I know when people hear that I'm from Minnesota the first thing they think of is the cold and snow..and yes, we do have that. Infact we've been in a cold snap for the last week or so..I've worn my long underwear a lot lately. But for me, it's all about the LAKES! As our license plates tout, we are the land of 10,000 Lakes. Actually the true number is 11,842 taking into account that they include everything..puddles, standing water, wishing wells... I was amazed by the fact that in the Twin Cities where I live there are 31 lakes within the city limits of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Minnesota is a Dakota word meaning clear blue water. I grew up about 20 miles from the Cities and we had a lake across the street
I guess I was in a silly mood when I came up with this card. The couple stamp came from Francie (f.schles)...I gave it a comic book sort of treatment backing it with the big polka dots. I added the text of the bubble...I had quite a few ideas I could have used but thought this would be funny especially if I paired it with a fisherman in a boat. My background is a gelli plate one I had in my stash. The fisherman is a combo of 3 stamps that I cut and pieced together.
A funny aside...my parents had a speed boat before I was born. My dad would always say that the two best days in owning a boat are the day you bought it and the day you sold it. LOL..Thanks for looking! And come visit Minnesota (in the summer of course) and check out all our lakes!

You have brought a good chuckle to us all today, I think. The caption in the comic is priceless! My DH grew up in WI and his dad always referred to Minnesotans (or however you call yourselves) as duck farmers because of all the lakes. Some day I am going to come and hike to the Headwaters of the Mississippi river which as I understand it are not that far away from the twin cities. Love your neck of the woods. We have family friends in Plymouth so we visit once in a while. I'll look you up next time.

What a fun card Polly. My parents lived in Minneapolis before I was born, but I have only been to visit one time -- I was amazed by the huge lake in the middle of the city.

Love the description of how this came about! Great comic book treatment of that couple, and the whole card is just lots of fun! You do many things well, Polly, but this kind of card is something that is so uniquely you. Fab!
BTW, in my family we always said "You don't BUY a boat, you AFFORD a boat." I grew up fishing for flounder and fluke off the south shore of Long Island with my grandfather. Ah, fond memories!. Thanks for reminding me of those days!

My county is full of lakes as well! Love your dad quote...I'll pull that out the next time DH talks about getting a boat again! ;) Your Gelli print was a perfect backdrop and I love the comic book feel you created with your fun word bubble!

Oh, how cute Polly and fun! Made me laugh. Your card really depicts Minnesota! There are a lot of us that live by lakes today in the gallery. A great card as only you do so well.
