This is for Ky's fun mixed media challenge. Ky sent us to the website of France Papillion, I don't get out much, I thought it might have been an old war movie. I couldn't have been more wrong. This lady creates some seriously wonderful weirdo arty stuff. I took inspiration from the fact that she appears to keep adding things for no other reason than to have fun (that's what it looked like to me anyway).
I started with an A4 sheet of smooth white cardstock then cut it into quarters, ready to use later on A5 card base (app 4" x 5.5"). I do not use a craft mat, I prefer aluminium foil, not just for the convenience of cleaning up, but colours on the al foil look very 'true'.
Start by spraying and brushing water onto the first piece of cardstock. Using Izinks, drop 3 spots of each colour (aqua, green and blue) onto the wet card. The second the inky-paint drops hit the wet card it bleeds into great shapes, spritz more water and move the card around so the colour runs in different directions.
Working quickly spray a lot of water onto the second piece of card and "kiss" the first card onto the second card. Put the first card aside to dry. On the second card add one drop of each Izink, spritz and move card around. Put it aside to dry. By now the aluminium foil will have a lot of coloured water on it. Take the third piece of card and slurp it around the coloured inkyppainty puddle. Put aside to dry.
Using a babywipe, clean the aluminium foil then immediately wipe the babywipe on the last piece of card. Even though it wont look like it, there is usually a bit of colour still left on the foil - spritz water on it and using the same part of the babywipe that had the colour on it, wipe the foil and once again wipe the card. The 4 panels are now ready to stencil and stamp.
On each piece I scrubbed in different distress inks, if I didn't like the colour I just sponged on a different colour over the top. All the stenciling was done with distress inks. The black stamping is Ranger Archival.
Note: Izink is a pigment ink with the consistency of thick paint, the bottle has a built in dropper. In real life cards have a beautiful pearly shimmer. Distress inks sponge perfectly over the top, as the Izink acts like a glossy undercoat. I also purchased pink, purple and silver - they look amazing together with a real marbelling effect. These are great for mixed media, but I think you could still achieve this effect with distress inks, glimmer mist, H2O's etc if you didn't want to spend more money.
I had a heap of fun making these backgrounds. I have converted two into cards for Jeanne's fun challenge here [/COLOR] over at Free for All. Thank you for looking.

Oh my wow, Susie! These are lovely. I really appreciate the depth of the colors and the layers blending so effortless through each other. I can almost see the shimmer, too. I'm going to keep and eye out for Izink - those look cool. Thanks for playing!
