Hello again... A sweet SCSer - Kiko! - suggested that the uploads don't have to be cards, so I thought I'd show you guys the painting on which our Flourishes Siberian Iris stamp is based.
I painted this Iris several years ago for a garden catalog, Klehm's Song Sparrow--you gotta check 'em out: http://www.songsparrow.com
The painting is of a cultivar called 'Butter and Sugar', hybridized by Currier McEwen. It was the first yellow Siberian ever created - and dear old Currier lived to be over 100.
For my originals I use a mixture of Winsor Newton gouache and watercolors, pure sable brushes in the finest points I can get, and love Aquarelle Arches hot pressed watercolor paper.
Hope you enjoy it, and can get a feel for the kind of painting I like to do... building up lots of washy layers, and then hammering it home with some DEEP colors for the veins and shadow areas. Thanks for looking!!

Your watercolour is beautiful. I love to paint flowers myself and use arches exclusively. What a great tribute to dear old Currier. Keep the pictures coming.

I just love knowing the history of how this became Flourishes' Siberian Iris. This is absolutely lovely, Marcella. Thanks so much for sharing some of your work here. It's great to have such a wonderful full-color picture of the original for inspiration.
