I made this birthday card for my "adopted grown daughter"....she's actually the youngest daughter of my dear friend that died almost five years ago from ovarian cancer....and during one of our last conversations, she told me, "Cathy, is really going to need you" and I decided right then that I would adopt her in my heart! I can't replace her Mother, but I can love her like a daughter!!!
Her Mother is the one that gave me the beautiful wallpaper sample book that I finally started using when I made my sister's BD card in March. The "blue textured" background and "textured yellow" flower centers are wallpaper samples. The card base, trellis and larger oval are all Bazzill Bling...don't know the color, I call it "pearl". The plant stalk with leaves is regular Bazzill....don't know name of the color. The smallest oval is cut from a piece of Ampad "Fine Paper Textures of Ivory". The lovely embossed flowers came from the Bridal Dept. at Michael's (same ones that Sue Nelson at "Heart Prints" uses), I just used my embossing stylus to sculpt them. The ovals were cut and embossed using Nestabilities and my Cuttlebug. The trellis, plant stalk and bluebird were cut using my Pazzles Inspiration and a free file from Pazzles (the file will only work with Pazzles and is copyrighted, so I don't think I can convert it to other formats, but you could download it from Pazzles and do it yourself). Here is a link to a picture of a scrapbook page someone else designed using the file (their's is certainly prettier than mine):
I added the eye to the bluebird using black cardstock that I coated with Aleene's Paper Glaze. I also cut a piece of CS and added the beak.
I was so glad that I came across the file from Pazzles as I was having trouble designing a card for Cathy. When I saw the bluebird....that did it!!! Her Mother loved bluebirds and is responsible (prior to and after her death) for providing nesting boxes all over the countyside where I live, so I know that will mean a lot to Cathy!!!

This is just lovely. The wallpaper adds such amazing texture and the trellis and flowers are just beautiful. You made my heart smile when talking about your adopted daughter's mom and the fact that she continues to be remembered so lovingly. Cheers to her memory and to the daughter's birthday.
