This weird technique operates similarly to making a rubbing. :0)
I bought this hand-carved wooden block (stamp) from India at Maiwa on Granville Island ages ago, figuring I'd try my hand at block printing to do batik. My Mom used to do it and I love how it looks. I haven't gotten around to it, since I've yet to figure out how those gorgeous blocks are really supposed to be used. :0)
However, I did find another use for the beautiful wooden stamp. It involves cardstock from Close to my Heart which has a nifty white core, and a nail file. Of course, this doesn't capture all of the detail, but it makes an interesting texture. And it gives you an idea of where to add doodling. :0)
It's EASY! I just did this schtuff:
1) Printed and Cut a mirkwood flower
2) Laid it over the block
3) Sanded it
4) Doodled in marker
