This started off as the sketch challenge for today, but as it was coming together, I loved how my snowy branches were turning out, and I didn't want to cover them up with another layer! So, I opted out of this one.
The penguins are a new release from High Hopes Stamps, www.highhopesstamps.com
After stamping with Stazon black, I wet the ice area, then lightly swiped my paintbrush with a mix of cobalt and prussian blue into the wet paper and held it up to let gravity pull the paint down into the water.
I did the same for the sky, using yellow ochre, only I did it upside down, so the deepest shades were closer to the penguins.
I colored the penguins with my watercolors, then brightened them up with my Tombow pens. Once I had done that and the ice was dry, I added more clear water and then dabbed some of the colors from thier hats and scarves into the ice area to show the reflection.
For the blue bg, I stamped a pine branch and pine cone in blue dye ink. Then colored in snow with a white gel pen.
TFL!
