TK Class Card #2

Photo Details
Poster: labullard

Yesterday I taught my first class at my local craft store! We made two Thomas Kinkade cards. This is the second one we did, stamped with Jet Black Stazon and colored with Pebbles Pearlescent Chalks, the Jewel Tones set. Our coloring tools were pointy makeup cotton swabs for the detail areas, and sponge applicators for the larger areas. You can find the pointy cotton swabs in the makeup section of drug stores and discount stores.

Chalks/Pastels are one of the easier coloring options and create a beautiful result. These Pebbles shimmery chalks are especially nice to work with - very smooth and blendable. Plus, you can erase! The Kinkade stamps and Pebbles chalks are available at Cornish Heritage Farms: http://www.cornishheritagefarms.com/index.php

When they were done coloring, I sealed their cards with workable fixative so they could add more color if they desired. The fixative does change and deepen the colors, and brings back the contrast of the black ink which gets muted down somewhat by the chalks.

On this class sample card, the original Kinkade artwork was used for a coloring guide. I used the white Souffle pen on the lights along the roofline of the house. Many of the students chose to use the Quickie Glue pen and glitter on their image, while some colored the lights.

It was fun to see all the variations they came up with for coloring this card, and they all did a great job!

If I didn't know better I would say this is a photograph or a factory made card. You are an incredible artist! So glad you're able to share this with the folks in your community. I have 2 TK stamps but they NEVER come out looking like this.

It can't get more perfect than this, just a beautiful job of coloring, Thomas should be proud!

Gorgeous! I saw how it began as a black and white image -- and what you were able to do with these chalks was amazing. Beautiful work as always!

Wow! Now I don't know which way I like it most, monochromatic or colored with the pastels. Beautiful in both instances.
