I saw this card on Jenn Balcer's blog when she did it: Love. This. Sketch! by jbalcer at Splitcoaststampers
It's inspired by the book covers of three novels by Stephenie Meyer: Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse. I *highly* recommend them, never mind that they're in the "young adult" section of the bookstore. We're going to buy the books for my SIL for her birthday next month so I thought this would be a good time to CASE Jenn's card. So here's my version.
I think I went at the challenge backwards, I kept two things the same and changed everything else I kept the flowers over a scripty stamp, and I kept the basic black-white-red (plus a little gray and green) color scheme, but I changed the layout to SC143, changed the stamps and didn't add any bling. At first I wanted to use Both Way Blossoms but darn it, it's in storage waiting to go to Okinawa. I think French Script fit this flower better than En Francais, but darn it, it's in storage waiting to go to Okinawa (I asked myself if I really needed to have both En Francais and French Script on hand for four months. Obviously, I had the wrong answer since one of them is NOT here).
Soooooo I stamped the flower in Basic Black, then masked it (and yes, it was a total pain in the patootie to cut out around those itty bitty leaves and thorns and junk) and stamped En Francais in Basic Gray ink which I loooooove to no end. I wanted the script to be just a little lighter than the flower. Once I'd done that I thought there was no way the flower would stand out enough but I tried coloring it in anyway and bam! It worked. I used markers so the colors would be really saturated. The background is Filigree stamped with white ink, wish they'd never retired that stamp. I put white cardstock on the inside and stamped the scripty Happy Birthday from It's Your Birthday in Real Red on it. So, anyway, pretty basic stuff. And now I have my SIL's birthday card ready to go A WHOLE MONTH EARLY. Watch me forget to order the books for her.
