Here's my page for the VSBN challenge in which we were to use an author's quote.
My quote comes from Susan Ariel Rainbow Kennedy (SARK). Some of it is written around the page and the rest is on the back of the pull out tab attached to the scissors under the main photo. My journaling is on the otherside.
Journalling "This was your first time playing with your new easel. We took out the chalk and the markers and just gave you the magnets and the paintbrushes. It was a delight to watch you explore all the things you could do with it. At one point you started to drag it around just like your walker. Then you tried to crawl through it like you do with your tunnel. I love to see you generalize skills to new situations.
One morning I got out the markers to see what you would do. I gave you the choice of one colour and you chose red. I took the purple and began to write your name. Immediately you grabbed the marker and started to make your own marks with it. Then you wanted the lid off the red marker you were still holding and make some marks with it. Although the makers were washable, I ended up taking them away from you pretty quickly as you were wanting to write all over me and you wanted to walk away with them. I might have to think through our next art experience a little bit more carefully lot allow you to explore the materials as you are used to. Later Daddy decided that since the markers were washable he would see what would happen when he painted your art with water. Again, we decided pretty quickly that although it would be extremely fun for all of us, the wool carpet was not the best place for this.
As I remember this moment, I think of this quote, which to me embodies your innate nature to discover and experiment. Qualities that I so adore in you. July 25, 2007"
The entire quote is "HOW TO BE AN ARTIST
“stay loose. learn to watch snails. plant impossible gardens. invite someone dangerous to tea, make little signs that say yes! and post them all over your house. make friends with freedom and uncertainty. look forward to dreams. cry during movies, swing as high as you can on a swingset, by moonlight. cultivate moods. refuse to be “responsible”. do it for love. take lots of naps. give money away. do it now. the money will follow. believe in magic. laugh a lot. celebrate every gorgeous moment, take moonbaths. have wild imaginings, transformative dreams, and perfect calm. draw on the walls. read everyday. imagine yourself magic. giggle with children. listen to old people. open up. dive in . be free. bless yourself. drive away fear. play with everything. listen to your inner child. you are innocent. build a fort with blankets, get wet. hug trees, write love letters.”

WOw! That is great! I love the journaling and the quote! Might not want to let him see that part about drawing on the walls yet though...I have to say though, my parents let me draw on mine once I was in HS.

what a fun quote! perfect page to use it on, too!My sis and I had our own bathroom growing up, and when we were teenagers, my parents let us draw all over the walls, My sis drew one pic so good, my parents cut out that part of the wall when they moved, to take along! you know you have a great page when it makes others remember fondly times of old!
