My sweet MIL passed away a couple years ago, and one of the items I kept of hers was her sewing basket. Why? I don't know since I don't sew, but it's such a pretty basket. I got to looking in it yesterday and came across a big bag of buttons. There were several large 'coat' buttons, and I got the idea to use one for the center of the Big Blossom flower. My SIL's birthday is coming up, so I made this card for her with one of her mom's buttons on it. Does that sound stupid? I find it sentimental but sometimes I doubt myself. Anyhoo, I wanted to use this pretty green fern dp. I am not a patient one for cutting things out and cannot believe I cut this blossom out three times to mat it! The swirl flourishes in the bg are a part of a clear stamp set that DeborahLynneS sent to me (thanks, Deb!). I have had those delicate looking leaf accents forever and liked how they looked tucked behind the blossom. The butterflies are diecuts (Cuttlebug) and the photo corners are diecuts (QuicKutz). This is a 5.25 x 5.25 card. I hope my SIL likes it!

I lost my Mom 15 years ago next month, and I have her sewing machine and box of buttons. They are very sentimental to me only. I am sure your SIL will love the card and letting know the button belonged to her Mom will be especially appreciated.

Wow, what a special card....No it is not stupid! You just wait and see if your SIL thinks it is stupid...No way, will she! What a very thoughtful card. And the fact that you did all of that cutting tells us what a labor of love this was! I love all of the elements of it, everything worked so perfectly. This one would be a really hard one for me to part with! It is just awesome! I can't wait until you give it to her and hear about her reaction!

This is so very precious and gorgeous -- your design and colors are awesome!! And, NO, it is not stupid!! I lost my mother 18 months ago, and I too inherited all her sewing stuff and sewing machine (actually I bought it at our auction we had for the siblings). And I don't do ANY sewing, but I really wanted the buttons!! (this is the truth). Don't ask me why, maybe because I knew her hands had looked through the piles like mine did (and some of the buttons belonged to prior generations). She did sew, and always made us kids cut the buttons/accessories off from everything before it was made into a rag -- it then went into the button tin (which we had many as there were 8 of us). You brought back so many memories even to me with this card -- ty

What a beautiful card. I think your SIL will love receiving a card with a button that belonged to her mother. That is a lot of cutting, but I am sure the end results made it all worth it.

Charlene, I sometimes people think I am a little fruity because I think the best gifts are expressions such as the button. Your thought was very impressive to me and I think and hope she feels the same. Your card is very beautiful, but even more beautiful with that button

I agree with all the above sentiments...a very precious idea from someone who was special to you, to someone who must mean a great deal also. I sure hope she loves and appreciates this!! And I love the designer fern and all the colors you designed into this creation. I always think of this flower as being in the brights family, but you've given me a different view of how it can look, so thank you!
