I started out coloring the covered bridges with Sharpies, but didn't like the look, so I switched to Stampin' Write Markers. They turned out ok, but I would like to figure out how to get a watercolor effect using Sharpies so I don't have to spray them. Any ideas?

These are beautiful! I am going to have to try coasters with this set(which is one of my favorites). I have only used the staz-on and the sharpies on tiles so can't help with your question.

Beautiful coasters!!
I made 100 coasters with the Coast to Coast set and I used the VersaMark pad and chalk. Obviously you have to spray them. Wish I could help you on your question.

These tiles look beautiful. When I color on the tumbled marble tiles I use the Stampin' Pastels (chalks) and a semi-dry blender pen. If you use a juicy blender pen it just moves the color around and doesn't "stick". You can also use q-tips but blender pens will obviously stay in the lines better. Before using your spray sealer, use a spray fixitive (found in the art supplies dept at your craft stores). Let dry for about 10 minutes then spray with the acrylic sealer. I use two light coats of the sealer rather than one heavy one. Hope this works for you! The color of the chalks will intensify after they have been sprayed.

I made some tiles using Sharpies with small stipple and watercolor brushes that were dipped in water. The colors were softer like watercolor and I was able to blend them so that there were no harsh edges. They turned out great and I didn't have to seal them! Obviously I did not use my good Stampin'Up! brushes for this. I bought a cheapie multi-pack of brushes from Hobby Lobby. I have also done them using the Stazon color reinkers. The colors are more vibrant with the reinkers than with the markers.

Your coasters are beautiful. I tried this with the same stamp set and used the black stazon and colored in with markers. . .didn't like the look, so I used versamark and chalks and had to seal them and still didn't like the look. The colors do become more vibrant if you use a sealant on them. I need to just keep working at it and eventually I will be satisfied.

Your coasters are gorgeous!! I use Stazon and permanent fabric markers, never had a bleeding problem, do not heat or seal. I can get color depth with the fabric markers. Thanks!
