Our school district "banned" food/candy for celebrations this year. I recently saw some great little stamped 2x2 tiles made into magnets here on SCS and another site I visit. With a little trial and error, I came up with the set above. The boys get Curious George (from the Jan. Target $1 spot), the girls get the flowers, and the teachers get Boynton.
I stamped in StazOn, let dry, then colored with Sharpies. Actually on the cat I used a Tombow pen, since Sharpie doesn't appear to make a light grey marker (at least not that I could find). The Tombow was a bit problematic, though. It wanted to wipe off. I sprayed all the tiles VERY LIGHTLY with several coats of acrylic sealer. Too much sealer at once and the Staz On will run. I didn't bake them because I found the black StazOn seemed to turn kind of purplish after baking.
I attached a ceramic disk magnet using Sumo Glue to the back of each magnet. Make sure to place the tiles far enough apart that the magnets don't attract each other during drying (this happened to several of mine in the first batch! It pulled the whole tile over next to the first one & the magnets slid across to touch).
All told, I was able to do 28 magnets (with a few extra tiles leftover) for $2.50 total!
