I took a plain frosted white rectangular cube shaped lamp from IKEA and first painted it with Lumiere and Pearl Ex in various colors. Then I stamped the butterflies using craft ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. Then I filled in the background with black acrylic paint to make the butterflies pop out when the lamp is lit. I also used the light inside to go over every little bit of the lamp to make sure that the black paint was opaque everywhere I wanted it to be, this took several coats of paint to accomplish. I also sprayed a couple times with acrylic spray to seal it.
This took a long time to finish and was very frustrating but it turned out pretty good. My friend didn't even realize I had made it at first! She thought I bought it like that. That is a pretty good compliment!
This image is one view of the lamp lit. I also have an image of it unlit too.
