I decided to get a little braver and try a larger than 51/4 X 4" size farm scene. I did a set of four farm scenes for a friend to hang in her kitchen yesterday. I loved them and decided to do a set of two in a larger size for myself. I haven't done anything larger than a single card size so this was an adventure....but really not any harder...just a little more work to cover white.
I masked off the face of the birdy barn from Garden Pleasures to remove the bird holes. It left the face of the barn totally empty so I had to sketch in the windows, doors and wall planks with an artist pen. I painted the barn with creamy caramel, let dry and then went over it again with a wash of Cranberry. I sketched out the fence and placed both hand sketched trees and Love as a Tree evergreens around the scene. I used 1/4" sponge dauber to sponge on the green and creamy caramel for the ground. I used the Watercolor Minis fern stamp for the leaves and the ground texturing. I used a dry watercolor brush to daub on reinker lightly to the evergreens to fill in for texture. I used a small watercolor brush to fill in weeds around the trees and back grassy area. I cut out the cow and chicks after painting and glued on to give added dimension. I added a little Krylon gold hand painted bell to the neck of the cow with linen thread.

This is really great! Love all the details. You did a great job with the larger image! Pretty soon you'll be comissioned to do actual sides of a real barn! It's a lost art.....

I just love all your landscapes that you do. It's so calming and peaceful to see all the greenery that you always incorporate into your sketches. Gives them a down-home country feel...gotta LOVE that!! :0)
