Jake,
You are in bed now…. Off to sleep. I am writing down this conversation because I don’t want to ever forget it. We had already said goodnight and gave our hugs and kisses. Several minutes later, I heard you getting up and I went to your door to check on you. You said “I need to ask you one more question. How do you meet someone you didn’t meet when you were little so you can get married?” I had told you before how that I didn’t know your daddy when I was little, that we met when we were older. You have always said that you were going to marry me, but I see now that you are starting to think about this in a different way. I began to explain how that when you get older, you would start to think about who you would want to marry and have a family with. How that you would like different people and they would like you too. How that you would love someone special and want to be with them all the time. You asked, “like Lena?” and I answered “yes, maybe Lena.” You asked me if you had to ask them to marry you and I replied that yes, it is nice to ask. Then, you asked me the most precious thing ever… You asked if I would be there. I told you that of course I would be there. I would be there for everything. I would be there for your first crush, your first phone call to a girl, your first visit to a girl’s house, your first date, your first kiss, your first heartbreak. I would be there for you when you go to college, when you think you have found the one, when you buy the ring, when you introduce her to our family and when you ask the question. And, if my prayers come true, I would most definitely be there when you marry the love of your life. I love you forever,
Momma
