Yes, there are a lot of substrates that we can draw on. I love birch bark and often pick it up. I found this little piece the last time I went up north to visit family and I doodled some vegetation with Micron and gel pens. I popped it up and drew around it with some sketch and wash, adding water, to create a shadow. Do you see the two little holes right in the middle? Those were created by a yellow bellied sap sucker, a type of woodpecker. Thanks for the challenge!

I love the birch bark and the pretty drawing on it. I see those woodpecker holes....this is great.

The idea of doodling on that lovely bark reminds me of the trees here that we call Scribbly Gums. Little bugs get under the bark and chew lovely designs into the tree - once the bark peels off we all get to see the scribbles.
