A good friend moved to Hawaii after retiring and immersed himself in the Hawaiian culture. So, I try each year to come up with Hawaiian and/or tropical cards for his birthday. This year I am using some symbols from their culture:
Circles: A closed circle represents a seamless life, one that has no beginning or end. It contains sacred knowledge that is interconnected to the stars and planets in the circle of life.
Sea Turtle/Honu: Good luck, endurance and long life
I used the floating strips technique by ink blending DOX onto glossy cardstock and then covered with Distress Glaze; cut into strips and adhered to a transparency. I have to say that the strips looked flat on my card and I wished I had kept the panel in its entirety. But, it was cut and I was committed, so I turned the circle so the strips were at an angle hoping for both a sense of movement and a bit more interest. And, it does look a lot better in that direction. I added Wink of Stella to the turtle shell to give a bit of "wet" to him and then it's all popped up on foam tape.
My greeting, which reads, "E hiki mai kau mau makemake a pau!" translates to "May all your wishes come true!" It is computer generated using Papyrus font.
As I wish my good friend a happy birthday, I am also wishing you a happy day. And, I hope all your wishes come true too. TFL

Beautifully detailed! Your "arrival" to the finish of this gem is perfect. The strips, the turtle coloring, and your techniques are outstanding...
