This is for today's F4A-a birthday card; and today's MIX-a memory.
My daughter Liz has a December birthday, four days before Christmas and I hadn't made her card yet. I'll never forget her birth, bringing her home on Christmas Eve 1981 and the worst January ever in my life. So house bound, as it was the snowiest and coldest January on record. I think it still is. I wasn't the greatest first time Mom, I felt so unprepared and the bad weather didn't help.
So where did the cardboard Elizabeth come from?? Glad you asked. I used to work at Target, opening boxes early in the morning and they carried the 'Purely Elizabeth' granola. I had no choice but to cut out the Elizabeth on the box. I haven't worked there since 2017 so I've kept it all this time. Moving helped me find some things that I'd forgotten I kept. Liz is my best Christmas gift EVER!!!!!! I thought we'd call her Beth but she wasn't a Beth, she was a LIZ!
I used two stash backgrounds, as she likes green (alcohol ink) like I do and I thought the gold acrylic paint piece with bubble wrap would be good for the candles. You can tell I cut out the flames by hand.
Thanks for the challenges!

What a wonderful card for your daughter, Jean! Great story and I'm pretty sure you're not the only first time Mom that struggled! They certainly don't come with instructions!

Wonderful birthday card complete with a wonderful story. I love that cardboard 'Elizabeth'. The candles are very festive looking with the bubble wrap circles on them. My first born was also a winter baby and a daughter. I remember my husband getting up late at night to dig out the bottom of the driveway in case we needed to get to the hospital to deliver.

Such a beautiful memory and special card. I remember becoming a first time mom, too. I was married to my Army husband and we were in Germany; so far from home. It was hard but the best thing about the military is that everyone is your friend/family and they stepped up to help us, so far from our families back in the U.S. I always say that the reason that we've been together for 59 years is because in those first three years we only had each other to lean on; we couldn't run back to mom and dad at the first sign of trouble. Those were tough times but I wouldn't trade them for the world, just like your memories of your wonderful Liz. Hope her 44th birthday is a very happy one for both of you.
