Because it reminded me that I had just seen some sheets of thin cork with adhesive back in my stash, a Dollar Tree purchase I had yet to use. I immediately had an idea of a card design with circular cork pieces, but first I had to see if they would die cut. They did, so I was in business.
I need a card for my niece whose birthday is soon, and she loves mermaid stuff so I found some very recently purchased stickers that I had gotten with her in mind. I decided to bite the bullet and cut into a brand new piece of the beautiful waves patterned paper from SU that I am totally hoarding, because it made the perfect background for my mermaid.
I started by trimming some shimmery light blue card stock down to fit on the card front and attached it. I chose a section of the pattern paper that was lighter so the mermaid would show up well and cut it to size. I attached the mermaid, adding some glue as I donât trust the little sticky pads. I attached this to the card front. It is hard to see but I cut a thin strip of the pattern paper and attached to the card above the mermaid, in the center of where the circles would go. I wanted to tie the two halves together and also give the impression of a line of cork floats.
I die cut three circles from the cork and lined them up on the card front. I added glue to reinforce the adhesive on the cork and glued down, then added stickers. The adhesive on these was so sad with the cork that I ended up pulling off the sticky pads and cutting my own from foam tape, AND adding glue. They are stuck down good now.
I decorated the inside of the card with a couple more stickers from the set and stamped the âmermaid kisses and starfish wishesâ sentiment inside.
Great inspiration site, Iâm so glad it pushed me to use that cork I have had for ages.

Fab sparkly stickers! The cork was a great find - I have some thin cork but always have to add tape to the back myself. The marble effect paper is a great sea for the mermaid to swim in.

Your mermaid card is so cute and I like the cardstock looking like water.
