This card wasn't inspired by anything in particular; I so enjoyed looking through the board of rainbow items. I decided to make a background with DOx sprays, very random, ran out of space on the bottom for the indigo and violet so went up the sides.
This is also for Thursday's WT-the debut of The Sound of Music in 1965. I was in 8th grade. Fortunately I had a Dad who loved Broadway shows so I was more familiar with the musical starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. Man, I would have loved to see that on the stage. Like Julie Andrews, Mary Martin glowed from within. Not as beautiful a voice, but very expressive. I still remember the album cover.
The movie is quite different from the musical and from the true story. Maria Augusta Kutschera had graduated with a teaching degree and was hired to teach one of Captain Von Trapp's children who was recovering from illness. She did not love him when she married him, but her love grew. She was angry on her wedding day because she wanted to be a nun, but his need for a wife and mother for the children took precedence. Because of the 1929 crash and other financial issues, Von Trapp had a lot of financial difficulties. They probably didn't climb the Alps to get out of Austria but I can only imagine what life was like when they arrived in America. As Maria said, 'we weren't poor, we just didn't have any money.' I have read her autobiography and would like to re-read it. The movie contains a song called 'I've Got Confidence' and Baroness Von Trapp and a couple of the children and grandchildren have a cameo during that scene. That song was not in the musical and a couple of the musical songs are not in the movie. One in particular is sung by the woman who the Captain is planning to marry, basically a song about surviving during the changes happening in Austria. I find it interesting how stories are told differently, depending on the medium.
I chose a wonderful quote by Maria, wholeheartedly agree. I used my favorite musical stamps from Club Scrap, featuring the guitar at the top left. Thanks for the challenges!

ooh what an interesting thing to read ( card is visually stunning too!) but, I have only seen the Julie Andrews movie version so, that is interesting to read that the story is so different.

WOW! So much I didn't know! I loved reading this & will be looking in the library for her book. I've seen both the movie and the play several times. Love how you did this card.

Thank you so much for the details of the family. I do find their story fascinating. There is actually a place in Maine that is still owned by part of the Von Trapp family. Our local news went there and did a story. It was well done.
I love this quote and love your gorgeous rainbow background.

My Gran took me to see the movie (1965) version and I have loved this movie ever since. I make a point to watch it when it airs every year around Christmas. Your card is a perfect representation Jean.

Super write-up, beautiful card. Gorgeous colours.
I like the way the body of the guitar is left suggested. I can imagine Theodore Bikel would have been a much better singer for the part than Christopher Plummer. I know him better from songs, the only film role I can think of that I've seen is in My Fair Lady.
