One thing I really need to set my mind to is building up my birthday card stash. It seems I am always missing sending a birthday or two throughout the year because I run short of time to create one. Birthdays just sneak up on me and catch me short-hand more often than not. For the next several months, not only do I need to focus on my Christmas card stash, but also get started replenishing my meager birthday card stash.
I started browsing through my Splitcoaststamper "challenge catch-up" list to see what challenges I have yet to do since 2017, and believe me, I still have plenty to complete! I was hoping to get my creative mojo juiced and stoked. I got lots of color ideas, techniques, and design ideas from my search with a total about 20 or so challenges that I could use to influence the design outcome of this birthday card, which will go to either one of my fall birthdays or for my birthday stash. After deciding on my card design, theme, and colors, I used 14 challenges that I can claim that inspired me, and they are listed below:
1) SC922 - Sketch Challenge - 9/7/22. Sketch Tweak: I rotated sketch to horizontal. Note: My narrower black strips were created by using the "Floating Strips" technique. I used an acrylic sheet so that the black background below shows through between the space created between the colored strips. My center rectangle another smaller acrylic sheet to which I adhered my poppy die-cut and my happy birthday shadow die-cut.
2) AOCC22 - All Occasions Card Challenge/ September 2022 - 9/1/22. An ongoing/monthly challenge that encourages you to set goals ahead for each month to help you complete and mail your cards more timely! This is a much needed September birthday card.
3) USEIT2022 - Use It Challenge/ September 2022 - 9/1/22. An ongoing/ annual challenge that requires you to use OLD/ DUSTY and long unused items and/or OLD/NEW items purchased, never used, and seemingly forgotten! My OLD: Acrylic Window sheets. My NEW/OLD: Happy Birthday Shadow die. I bought this several years ago and it's having its first use, plus the Polished Dot gems I've had for over a year and finally used them...I did color them with Copics which made them perfect for this card.
4) WT910 - Ways to Use It Challenge/ Blocked! - 8/18/22. Challenge: fill the gallery with chunks of color using the color block technique. I chose strips of color for my color blocking.
5) F4A649 - Free 4 All Challenge/ Scouts - 7/29/22. Challenge: be inspired by Boy or Girl Scouts...choose something to do with scouting. I was a Girl Scout leader and assistant for over 10 years. One of my favorite crafts for my scouts for Mother's Day was to cover a clay flower pot with decoupage fabric scraps and plant flowers in it. It was part of our Plants & Animals badge. In 2011 a new badge replaced it named the Flowers badge. My card commemorates those scouting days!
6) ABC16O15 - Alphabet Challenge/ Letter O = Opposites - 2/23/22. The red in my card is found on the opposite side of the color wheel than the blues and greens.
7) MIX464 - Mix-ability Challenge/ Very Peri - 12/17/21. Challenge: incorporate the 2022 Pantone Color of the Year--Very Peri (a purple blue) in your card. Bonus: add other pantone colors. Stampin' Up's new In-Color Starry Sky is almost a perfect match to Very Peri. In researching most of the four other new In-Colors in my card were featured as a color of the year at some point in the last 20 years! Mediums: acrylic sheeting and Copic marker for gem coloring.
Wednesday Tutorial - Floating Strips - 7/7/21. Using an acrylic sheet add color strips, but left every other strip with a clear acrylic strip showing so that the black background below peaks through, and then pop it up.
9) MMTPT676 - Teapot Challenge/ Celebrate Summer! - 7/6/21. Challenge: what is summer to you...pools, outdoors, flowers, fairs, ice cream, flip flops, etc. One of my daughter's favorite flowers in her garden are her poppies. They provide lots of bright color in late spring and throughout our summer. My card features a red poppy. I'm late to the party, so my card is for a birthday for a family member.
10) TLC830 - Technique Lover's Challenge/ Floating Elements - 1/18/21. Challenge: check out video on the floating elements technique. I've used the required acrylic sheet with color strips alternating with leaving an acrylic strip to let the black background show through.
11) IC785 - Inspiration Challenge/ Studio Knit - 12/19/20. Challenge: Find inspiration for your card in theme, color, shape, subject, etc.; include your choice's link. I found this knitted poppy flower that reminded me of Stampin' Up's Poppy Moments dies, and I was sold. I wanted to include Poppy flowers on my card. Here is the website link: Poppy Knitted Flowers Pattern!
12) FS713 - Featured Stamper/ Hooray for Jacqueline! (aka Jacqueline Valade/ jacqueline) - 10/4/20. I found these red poppy earrings that Jacqueline created...it definitely confirmed that red poppies needed to be on my card! Red Poppy Earrings!
13) DINSP0919 - Fan Club Monthly Themes--September 2019/ New Girl on the Block - 9/15/19. Challenge: I used the Interpretation Idea to color block. I chose color strips for my color blocking. My card is for the Inspiration section of this 5-part challenge. I was inspired and used every color in the Inspiration picture.
14) CAS520 - Clean & Simple Challenge/ Bands of Color - 2/4/19. Challenge: let's see bands of color on your card. I've used the 5 new Stampin' Up In-Colors for my bands or strips of color.

Beautiful design, Carlene. You created a super birthday card. It seems I almost never have the card I need when I need one in a hurry. I need a stash of everything built up.
