Oh boy, I love challenges that really take me out of my comfort zone! I had always wondered how watercolor artists went about painting white flowers. I'm happy that I was able to learn and give it a try. The video tutorial was really helpful.
I started by sketching the flower. I used to struggle with flower sketching but I've been practicing. Once I was happy with the flower, I worked on the background. I meant to incorporate more light space but of course, I didn't, even though I tried! I like a darker background anyway.
I was very nervous to drop color onto the petals. So, I dropped a very little amount of paint at a time and controlled it with a brush if I needed to. For a first try at this technique, I think I like this turned out!
The final step was to add the gold leaves and splatters. I have gold metallic paint but, I didn't trust myself to hand paint the leaves. Not ready for that just yet. Instead of painting, I used a gold felt tip marker. I then added white paint splatters. I decided to add a few more with a white gel pen because the white paint was too faint.
Unfortunately, when I removed the painter's tape some paint seeped under the tape and went into the border. I wasn't able to lift it. Oh well, it's all good.
THANK YOU for such a fun Watercolor Wednesday Challenge. I hope you enjoy my card.

I am certainly enjoying your card. I love the shape of your flower and that you picked up the more raspberry from the background for the center. I used a gold pen to go around my flower, also. Love your stem and leaves. Super job and beautiful card.

that happens ( and or sometimes the paper tears ) it seems to be a crap shoot in my space ( heat and humidity) on how well the taping part will go. I LOVE the hints of Pink peeking through on this, it turned out so very pretty
This is fabulous! I love the color you added to your flower. Wow, I am so impressed with your flower. I guess I need to practice more for sure! Your background is stunning. Your painting is gorgeous!

Beautiful watercolored card, Marianne. The bg is lovely as are your touches of pink in the center and petal tips. The gold outlining and drawing that you did looks terrific. Well done!

You did a marvelous job on both sketching your flower and laying in a deep, rich background to pop your flower into the limelight.
BTW - you might want to try Yellow Frogtape instead of regular painter's tape. It's a bit pricey BUT worth it for no bleeds and I also have not had the problem of my WC paper tearing when I lift it either. It's made for delicate surfaces.
