I have quite a number of birthdays in August between family and friends. I'm feeling behind already, so I got my thinking cap on and decided to get serious! With lots of help from Splitcoaststamper challenges, I came up with a vintage design that I'm really pleased with! It will be for one of my husband's sisters, who moved to Florida in this last year to be closer to her oldest daughter. I'd better get it finished and off in the mail as she lives about as far from Washington state as she could be...kitty-corner across the U.S.!
I found this wonderful vintage paper in my paper stash from Michael's Craft Stores, "Recollections Signature Vintage Country Paper Stack. It got my vintage mojo going full speed ahead, which made me really excited to get started! Vintage is one of my favorite card styles, yet I haven't made many cards in this style during the past several years.
I used five patterns from the paper pack that I cut into varying widths and distressed inked the edges before horizontally layering them one after the other, on a pre-sized cardstock guide. I also used one of the patterned tags provided in the paper stack as my sentiment rectangle centerpiece. I stamped my birthday sentiment onto it using my Misti stamp positioner, and I adhered the finished tag onto a black lattice frame for added interest. I fussy cut several identical flowers from several of the tags and layered and distressed their edges to provide additional depth, finishing off with a sparkly gem. My last addition was to add a black-striped sheer ribbon horizontally with a two-loop side bow.
In my search for inspiration through Splitcoaststamper Challenges, I came up with a combination of 12 new and old challenges to help me with my card design. They are listed below:
1) SC919 - Sketch Challenge - 8/17/22. This week's sketch required horizontal stripes in varying widths with a rectangular overlay in the center. I chose to use patterned papers for my stripes. Here is a link to Sketch SC919.
2) CT0822 - Fan Club Monthly Themes--August 2022/ Lavender & Old Lace - 8/15/22. Theme suggestion: Explore your vintage or shabby chic side, using soft colors, distress techniques, and vintage elements. My card style is vintage, using patterned papers with lace, old music, burlap, ribbon & bow, old-fashioned floral with sepia, tans, creams, white, black and a bit of gold.
3) AOCC22 - All Occasions Card Challenge/ August 2022 - 8/1/22. An ongoing/monthly challenge that encourages you to set goals ahead for each month to help you complete and mail your cards more timely! This is a much needed card for an August birthday!
4) USEIT2022 - Use It Challenge/ August 2022 - 8/1/22. An ongoing/ annual challenge that requires you to use OLD/ DUSTY and long unused items and/or OLD/NEW items purchased, never used, and seemingly forgotten! OLD item(s): Recollections dsp stack: Vintage Country. I've had this dsp stack well over five years! Spellbinders Lattice Rectangles: I haven't used since 2015!
5) MMTPT715 - Teapot Challenge/ Dotty or Stripey - 4/5/22. Challenge: Use dots or stripes or both. I used patterned horizontal stripes on my card! I'm late to the party, so my card will be a birthday card for my sister-in-law.
6) AB15V22 - Alphabet Challenge/ V = Vintage - 9/29/21. See my vintage style card!
7) F4A591 - Free 4 All Challenge/ Old and Grumpy - 6/18/21. Challenge: make a birthday card for someone older. My card is for my sis-ter'in-law's birthday, who will be 79 on her birthday in several weeks.
IC781 - Inspiration Challenge/ Hello Lucky - 11/21/20. I found this card and was inspired by its color scheme, which led to my finding the dsp stack of vintage papers in browns, blacks, tans, cream, and white: Holiday Peace!
9) FS706 - Featured Stamper Challenge/ She's a Real Pal (aka palparis...Elizabeth) - 8/16/20. What a great gallery to browse! The burlap and colors in this card caught my eye: IC668 flags down a wedding banner. It fit perfectly with the color and burlap I discovered in my vintage paper stack, which encouraged me to use some of those patterns/ colors. I changed the card theme from wedding to birthday, plus added more patterns and colors because I planned to use a pattern strip background idea presented by another challenge.
10) WT753 - Ways to Use It Challenge/ It's All in the Text - 8/15/19. Challenge: use text or print on your card. My text is in the 4th paper pattern strip.
11) CAS499 - Clean & Simple Challenge/ Frame It! - 9/17/18.
I framed my sentiment rectangle with a black lattice die-cut.
12) MIX294 - Mix-ability Challenge/ Very Vintage--Monochromatic - 9/14/18. Challenge: use black & white or cream & sepia on your card. I've used black, white, cream, and tan on my card...all very vintage shades, plus the card style is vintage. Mediums: Dye-based stamping, Pigment ink for edge distressing; ribbon fabric.

Wonderful lace + burlap + sheer organdy ribbon & bow! I miss vintage as well ... it's fun to revisit beloved styles & stamps, etc. Beautiful creation! August is the beginning of this family's birthday "season", rather than just heavy on August. lol
