I picked a song that I love and that has always said summer to me ever since I went to a dorm room party my freshman year at University of Delaware where two guys had literally put a wading pool in their room and everyone brought their biggest cup filled with water to the party. We danced to this song while splashing in their little poolâe"âeoeTwisting By the Poolâe by Dire Straits.
It turns out that this is a pretty obscure song apparentlyâe"my wife didn't know it despite her years of working in mall record stores in the 80s, so here is a link to the actual song if you are curiousâe"or nostalgic and want to hear it again:
Anyway so I knew I wanted to make a pool card and I got some new digital stamps from Etsy that included a kid in a pool float so that's where I started. I popped the image into Word and resized to fit on a card, then added the song lyric and printed them out on white cardstock. I cut out the words, trimming closely. I colored the image with alcohol markers and fussy cut it as well.
I dug out a wood grain paper pad I had from Joann's two dollar bin a few years ago, and picked out a grayish-white sheet and cut to the size of a card front. I used the squiggly die cut to cut a hole in the paper and glued the paper to the card front. Then I used the same die to cut a piece of pool-blue paper (Colorbok watercolor pad) to inlay. I realized it looked more like a puddle than a pool so I grabbed a darker gray marker and outlined the edge of the hole to look like a pool edge, then glued the blue piece in place. I glued the sentiments down and finished by attaching the pool float boy with foam tape.
And now I'm enjoying having that fun summer song in my head, feeling nostalgic about the fantastically fun stupidity of having a pool party in a dorm room, and wishing I had a pool right now in our awful hot Atlanta weather! TFL!
USEIT2022: used some older wood design paper, a brand new digistamp, and used markers that I don't use nearly enough!

Oh, what a fun description! I love the picture you created for us of college students dancing in a wading pool in a dorm. Ugh. I am away from home at the moment but I have heard that the weather is horrid in Atl right now. Try to stay cool! Your little swimmer is adorable! What a great-looking pool.

Sorry about your hot weather - it was hot here yesterday but not like Atlanta. That song was in my head as soon as I saw your card and I loved reading about your party. A very cute card to remember a fun time

Oh, I know this song, well! I have a Dire Straits CD with this song on it. Your dorm party sounds like a BLAST! Love your cute little guy floating the day away in his innertube in the pool (very creative pool you made!).
