This isn't really a very cohesive card, as I just tried to pull several elements into it. For my mother being French, I used a TCW carte postale stencil with Paris and the Eiffel Tower - and the Bonjour sentiment. She taught me to read, we all have a love of language and words, so my background is a page from the two-volume Shorter Oxford Dictionary which her father gave her for her 23rd birthday. I gessoed it before adding the stencilling. She taught me to sew, so I had to include some stitching around the edge. I added some gilding flakes in silver and a gold mix which picked up on the kingfisher colours. The kingfisher was stamped on watercolour paper and coloured with Inktense pencils, SN clear glitter pen on his blue foliage, Glossy accents on his beak, claws and eye. I added a loopy element cut from glitter card (it's from Sizzix Birdcages), and popped the image panel up on foam.
Most of all she taught us that creativity was important. I had made digital cards, and origami-based and embroidered ones, but most of my papercraft card-making came after she died, because it was my creative therapy and outlet when I couldn't play music for a long time (at the last minute I snuck a couple of music notes stamped in on the background).

Sabrina, your mother taught and gave you so much, she must have been the best! I love this card, created with love and incorporating all the gifts your mother had or gave you! I just love the beautiful kingfisher, too~

Loving tribute. I thought those were real chains till you told us otherwise. You got a lot of elements in there and it IS cohesive! Lovely. I hope you keep it forever. I am sorry she did not live to see your work now...she would be so pleased from your description.
