I bought a weird punch at a thrift store for a couple of bucks and took it home to see what I could do with it. Making hexagons was the only thing I could figure out. A single one of the punch could maybe pass for a kite. I'm mostly stumped and it is a hard one to punch, so I'll make some cards and then donate it back to the thrift store to be sold again!
I did not want to color the owl, so I blended on some ink using the die as a mask, then colored just the eyes and beak. I finished with glossy accents on the eyes.

I like your hexagons, and wonder how it would look reversed - with your outside edges turned in? Or maybe lined up as a border?
I do not think it is sold now, but years ago I bought a Power Punch from tapestryintime to use with my old-style punches and it has saved my hands many times. Maybe you could find one - maybe at what sounds like an excellent thrift store (mine is not good and only has clothing and furniture).
