It's my pleasure to be your hostess in the Color Challenge this week. I've chosen Just Jade, Balmy Blue, and Night of Navy, with the dessert option of WATER. I wanted double dessert, so I depicted water (the ocean) and also used water in my technique to create this art journal page.
I started with a 6" x 6" piece of watercolor paper, which I punched to go into my disc-bound journal. I sprayed it with water, then sprayed Chipped Sapphire and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide sprays in several layers, drying with my Ranger heat tool between each layer. When I had the blend of light and dark blue that pleased my eye, I smooshed a Lucky Clover Distress Ink pad on my craft mat, sprayed with more water, and randomly dipped the page into the ink droplets, again drying between layers.
While the page was drying, I stamped the turtle and the "Advice" stamp on Bristol Smooth cardstock with Chipped Sapphire DOX, then sprinkled with matt embossing powder and heat set. When it was cool, I lightly covered those areas with a blending brush and Tumbled Glass DOX. I edged the Advice panel with a brushing of Chipped Sapphire, and also stamped the fish scale design all around the edges and randomly in the center of the page. I fussy cut the turtle, cut the letters from Night of Navy cardstock, and adhered it all together. Finishing touch, the date on the lower left corner.
The sea turtle is known as "honu" in Hawaiian and symbolizes good luck, protection, endurance, and long life.
I hope you find some time this week to create with this week's colors, and perhaps find a way to incorporate water into your design. Thanks for looking!

This is breathtaking, Barbara! I love how you have many layers of water built up so beautifully: the wave image, the watercolored ink and those drops. The whole page is amazing!

Fabulous art journal page. Loved reading how you created it. Very impressive. The sea turtle is terrific. Love all the advice. Fitting for sea turtles and land-dwellers. The bubbles are a nice accent. Well done! Thanks for the inspiration and the wonderful color challenge.

I really love your color choice AND dessert! One of my fave things to do is to spritz my background with water. Love the TJ sentiment with the turtle, too!
