Ann/annsforte3 asked teapotters to have a teaparty for Larry - Sharon's/smadson's hubby - who is recovering after having hip surgery. Anita/snietje challenged us to add a French touch to our cards.
My husband is a basketball enthusiast like Larry, so I started with the idea of using a bouncing ball, but I hit a wall about 'adding a French touch'. I settled on using the colors of the French flag - red, white and blue (thank you for that suggestion, Anita!). It was going to be a pretty straightforward card, but then the Silhouette started acting up. Every time I cut the white part, it would tear the paper (probably because my cutting mat is old, it's not that sticky anymore, or it could also be the white cs I used ) - no matter where I place it in the mat. I tried to neaten it up with a pair of scissors, but it was still very noticeable... I went to bed a little frustrated. This morning, I had the idea of covering up the tear with narrow strips of blue cs, and I'm happy that it worked (*whew*). Actually, I like it better than with just the thin blue lines!
Thank you Anita and Ann for the challenge, and thanks for looking!

What a cute and clever card, and with the perfect sentiment for a basketball lover. I really like the cutaway design for the basketball and the blue & white stripes against the red look great - glad you were able to turn an upset into a beauty! Very nice card!

How lucky for you that the craft elves messed with your Silhouette because those blue stripes look awesome. I can imagine it looked good before, but the stripes really take it up a notch. Love the cutaway around the ball and the sentiment is genius. Well, the whole card is genius. Fabulous job.

Cool layout. I'm sorry your Silhouette was acting up, but glad that you like the end result even better.
We love seeing the lavender fields in France several times - in fact we even visited a museum too on our second-last visit.

great card... very clever to add the strips of blue... it looks perfect. I have 3 Cricuts, and when the mats aren't as sticky as they need to be, I use a little bit of Awesome cleaner (from Dollar Tree), spray it on and use a scrub brush to clean the mat. leave it set overnight, and the next day it's good to go... found that solution on You Tube. I used to reglue with Arlene's tack it over and over.. but washing the mat works better. It adds a few years usage to my mats. Don't know if it would be the same for the Silhoutte, but if the mat is no longer sticky, it might be worth a shot to try.

This is fabulous, and whatever you covered, I don't even see what the problem was. This is such a perfect sentiment!!
