I got the inspiration for this card from one I saw on Pinterest. That one made the fireflies with a child's fingerprints & yellow paint. I assume the wings were then drawn on by an adult. Since I have adult-sized fingers & no children, I decided the forward-facing firefly stamp from "Little Fireflies" would be the perfect substitute when paired with the "Mason Jar" stamp.
I altered the sketch so I could make the center panel large enough to fit the jar stamp. I used smooth bristol paper for the main panel, & stamped the jar with Fog ink, just to give me a guide as to where to stamp the fireflies. I stamped the jar again onto a piece of acetate with Staz-On ink, & also stamped just the lid onto a piece of matte metallic silver cardstock. I fussy cut the lid, & adhered it to the top of the acetate jar (that I'd also fussy cut) with double-sided tape.
I die cut a label from ivory cardstock, & made guide marks for placing the greeting. I spelled out each word (individually) on an acrylic block, and stamped them one at a time onto the label with Blue Jay ink. I adhered the label to the acetate jar with more double-sided tape.
I stamped the fireflies on my main panel with Versafine, having all but one peek out from behind where the jar lid & label would be. I masked each firefly, and inked the background with Chipped Sapphire. After I removed the masks, I colored the fireflies with my Tombow markers. I was quite pleased that I was even able to add the glow at the bases of 2 of them, even with it going over the blue ink. I just had to be careful not to color into the blue with the yellow marker too much, or the inks started to blend & make green.
To adhere the acetate jar to my background, I added double-sided tape to the back, behind the label & lid, and one small piece at the very bottom of the jar. I let the inked panel dry for a few hours, and then adhered the acetate in place, lining it up with the Fog stamped image on my panel. I was amazed that even the piece of adhesive I put at the bottom of the jar doesn't show!
For the yellow border strips, I created a blank "canvas" in Photoshop. I added guides for how long & how tall I wanted each strip, & drew a text box for each. I used the "Handwriting" font to type, "You light up my life" repeatedly inside each text box. My plan was to make it look continuous around the whole border, but that didn't work out. So I just let the text break at the end of each strip. I printed the whole thing onto a scrap of yellow cardstock, & cut the strips apart.
I adhered a piece of navy polka dot paper (from my scrap stash) to my card base. I added my focal panel, & then adhered my border strips. I love how this came out! This will go to a hospitalized child, via Send a Smile 4 Kids, to send to his/her mother for Mother's Day.
