This card is for the Alpha Challenge U = Ugly Papers.
I have a lot of papers as I started 20+ years ago as a scrapbooker. I've also got a lot of free papers out of magazines and from friends who have ceased crafting. I've also got a lot of papers which I look at and think I will never use but somehow can't part with them.
These were some of those papers. This was a free pack from a scrapbooking magazine, and although I like the BG paper I chose, the other side of it was way too busy and I could never see myself using it until today. I punched a border out of it and distressed the edges in pink.
The pack also had a sheet with birds on one side and black and white flowers on the other. They just weren't vibrant enough for me or my thing and I knew I wouldn't use them. I like crazy birds and some birds on cards, and in fact purchased some SU paper with birds but I have a bit of a phobia from my childhood so bird paper is not usually my go to. I do love birds though and like to see them outdoors and on cards...it's more to do with having birds on the walls in my home and a superstition that my mother had which has left its mark on me LOL.
So I had this very dark paper with magnolias on and decided to cut one of the flowers out. Ah, that was better. I turned it over to face the sheet of birds.....so I chose one in soft colours and fussy cut that out. Plonked them on my border and now I'm loving these papers. It's amazing how different they look to me now.
Added my TH sticker, stickles and done. I thought the sticker was appropriate for this challenge.
To those of you who don't like some of your papers, use them for embellishments, in Mixed Media, or as a friend on this site suggested, cover them up with gesso/inks. Paper can be altered. I shall start to use mine for embellishments and this challenge was perfect to push me out of my box and get those unloved papers out.
TFL. Happy day and creating.

Yes the birds inside was a no no but we were told peacocks were bad luck inside.

This is one Beauty of a springtime card, Jayne! I had to read what you didn't like because I adore everything about your creation, and I see now that you do also. Beautiful bird, magnolias and punch too! Love the bits of sparkle added~

I am loving these papers too. You brought them to life and gave them love and now they shine on this beautiful card.
My Grandmother had a fear of owls and some real family stories of how they were bad omens. I love them, but don't use them much and never for decorating as I always think of her stories (I have not passed them on to my kids). Funny how we get about things. Many hugz
