These altered playing cards are for a MM challenge that Nancy (NWilliams6) and myself do together each month. We simply choose some MM videos and take inspiration from them. We now have other ladies joining in and it's such fun. In no way do we wish to take away from the wonderful MM challenges on this site. We just wanted more MM and to try different things.
I'm also adding it to the Mix challenge..do what makes you happy.
Nancy choose this months theme, which was altered playing cards. Here's the videos Nancy chose.
There's lots of videos on YouTube on this technique.
Back to my cards. I bought some cheap playing cards from the supermarket and then found these jumbo sized ones in the $2 shop. Love the size as I put a lot of stuff on.
The secret with shiny playing cards is to either add gesso first to prime them or alternatively sand them. I tried both options. Then the fun starts. I did the floral serviettes (napkin) one first. Remember to take off the backing layers on the Serviettes. I remembered for this but forgot for my Alice in Wonderland one. You should still be able to see the card. I used gel medium to stick it down and went over it with clear gesso. Emphera chosen and stickles added as well as liquid pearls. Easy piecey and oh so pretty.
Onto card 2...my paper floral one. I didn't use a serviette on this one. After priming, I added torn paper..you can't see it now lol and used my honeycomb stencil and pushed textured paste through it. It looked pretty at that stage and in hindsight I wouldn't have sprayed my inks all over it and left some of the white paste to show through. I also added gold flakes with gesso/gel medium that turned to pewter. They are underneath the flowers lol. I left it after that and went back to it a day later. More spraying, micro beads added and twine. Flowers and bling added and then more gold flakes. I have this new queen bee stamp..love it...stamped that, fussy cut and added stickles and plonked her on top. The butterfly is out of my stash and was from a dear friend Helen (Helekins). Number 2 done.
Onto my final card. I had ordered two packs of serviettes off Amazon....check your local $ store ad I found some lovely ones there much cheaper. I already had a packet of Alice in Wonderland chipboard pieces so wanted to keep the theme going. Serviette added..forgot to take off the backing....Doh. Stamped around the edges and added some texture paste through a stencil. Painted gold on the paste and added gold paint on Alice's dress. Emphera, charm and twine added and done. I love this one...well I love them all but the 2 serviette ones are my favourite. I'm sending this one to a dear friend.
Our poppets were checking them out and DGD loves #1 and DGS loves #2. Interesting. The main thing is I had fun and will use these on cards, in pockets in journals or on my scrapbooking.
Have a go.
TFL. Happy day

I love all three! Alice, of course, speaks to me the most because I love that quirky girl and the napkin you used is my favorite napkin ever (so far anyway - lol). The flower/bee card has the the best colors and so any wonderful details - it may be my fave. The flower/butterfly one is so pretty and has some awesome ephemera. Brilliantly done and soooo cool my friend. Hugz
