Firstly the Water Colour Wednesday Challenge - Wet on Wet Water Colours. Lots and lots of attempts to create some free hand leaves - but afraid most of them are now in the scrap bin - to be used later on other projects. I found it difficult to judge how much water to put on first - mostly I didn't put enough. Also I think we all need some guidance on what type of paint brushes are best for this type of work. Any recommendations? I gave up on the free hand but will continue to try it again when I get some different paint brushes and watch some more videos to see what brushes the professionals use. I am afraid my paint brushes would be top quality in a kindergarten class but not for this type of work.
The second challenge is the Mix Challenge - Do more of what makes you happy. Birds, plants, colouring and splattering a little bit of paint make me happy.
I stamped the leaves on a water colour panel with Archival Jet Black ink. Coloured the leaves using the wet on wet water colour techniques. I then stamped the flowers and on water colour paper and coloured them using the same technique. Fussy cut the flowers and birds an inked the edges with a black Tombow Marker before gluing them onto the background which I had previously splattered with gold in.
There you have it - a card with all things that make me happy.
Hope you enjoy.

Oh wow Helen, this looks amazing. I am not even close to uploading anything LOL. You nailed both challenges, I love everything about this, especially the happy feel to it. Your splatters look fabulous too! I am not sure about brushes either, but your work looks terrific. TFS

Helen, you created a beautiful card. As for brushes, there was some discussion from Kia, Linda (Holstein), and Lydia about brushes in the first challenge on June 3. That may be helpful for you. I think for this challenge I mentioned I used a flat brush and an angler brush. It was just comfortable for what I was creating. You're doing good work with these challenges and so glad you are playing along.

Favourited. Helen, this is just enchanting.
I used to work for the company that distributed Winsor & Newton, amongst other fine art supplies. We had a couple of staff training days, and one thing that stands out still in my memory is that the sable brushes carried much more than the synthetics, so your strokes can go further. Of course it will also depend on your paints and how much pigment they contain, but from the same time in my life, I can also say that I knew some commercial/professional artists who worked with the student rather than the pro range of paints. Rounds and riggers were our best-selling brushes for watercolour ( I used to do DH's sales analysis ).

Helen your work is amazing. I know what you mean about brushes though..I think I have the same problem. I tried...four attempts and ended up with squashed spiders. This my friend is a masterpiece. Love it. TFS. Happy day and keep safe and well over East. It’s such a worry right now. Big hugs
