This is a close-up version of the full card, so that you can see the Hand-stitching, as well as the happy birthday die-cut cut from fun foam with double-sided adhesive on the back and stabilized by the very strong, wonderful Gina K Designs Connect glue.
Stitching this background piece took two full days of Hand-stitching, but it was well worth doing for this special man, Bill. We celebrated his 84th birthday just with his wife, his daughter, his son, and myself, all outside on their back deck while following all of the proper distancing rules to keep everyone safe.
This pattern and color combination is my own. This is not part of the first grouping of approximately 50 hand-stitched cards with 44 of them given to my Mom in early 2019, this card was made in June, 2020.
The main stitched base used the Altenew Pegboard die on 110-pound white paper. What also takes time is poking out the holes on the thick cardstock as well, I find that approximately every 4th die-cut, I will poke out the holes of the metal die as well as the die-cut to clear put the die. I find that it takes some extra shimming and repositioning and putting this die through my Crafter's Companion Gemini several times before the holes are cut, then I need to poke most of them through. This is definitely a very time-consuming way to create a card, but I do enjoy the actual stitching. Unless otherwise stated, I create the patterns and color combinations, based on the colors of embroidery yarn/floss I have on hand.
I love the look of the dimension that fun foam gives, so I tend to often cut out my sentiment dies for the front of my hand-stitched cards with fun foam, and I either use some with adhesive on the back, or I will add double-sided adhesive to the fun foam before I die-cut it out.
I hope that you find seeing this close-up version of the Hand-stitching as well as of the happy birthday sentiment helpful.
I appreciate so much all that I learn from the very talented artists here on SCS, and you absolutely make my week when you stop in, take a look at my card, and especially if you take the time and trouble to write a comment--that just means so much to me!!! It's why I try to take the time to leave comments often when I am having the enjoyment of seeing what others create and upload on this wonderful site. So, if you have left a comment for me, thank you SO very much!!!
Be blessed, and stay safe and healthy especially during these unusual and uncertain times.
