This card was made for my son-in-law's birthday. He's a big fan of role-playing games, so I thought a wizard card would be perfect for him. It was inspired by two card challenges this week:
Cut It Up Challenge Blog #201 - "Boys Will Be Boys" (http://cutitupchallenges.blogspot.co...l-be-boys.html) in which we were challenged to create a masculine card with a die cut (I used five different dies from three different sets!).
I absolutely love the burgundy star pattern paper in Stampin' Up!'s (SU) "Myths & Magic" Designer Series Paper (DSP). So I used that as an inspiration for the color scheme. The paper is so beautiful, that I didn't want to hide it, so I used two large vellum dies to cut out a vellum oval, an to frame it with a magical silver oval.
The wizard was stamped onto white cardstock using black ink with the SU "Magical Day" set. I then re-stamped him using Versamark ink on my stamp positioner tool, and dusted with clear embossing powder and heat set. I find that when I am coloring with alcohol inks, it makes the image stand out much more, and prevents me from coloring over the edge, which I inevitably do. I used three different shades of purple/violet to color the wizard, then die cut him out using the matching die set. His beard was colored gray using a #2 pencil so I could put "hair" streaks and different shades in such a small coloring area.
The wizard and his magical crystal were glued to the vellum oval, and a swirl of magic was die cut from silver cardstock, and glued in place.
The entire wizard oval was glued around the edges to the front of the card. Inside the card I stamp "Have a Magical Birthday" in silver.
I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5" because the die cutting was so easy, and the coloring was minimal. I think my SIL will really like the card!!!
