Lucky girl, Stacy to have a floral delivery...isn't that just the best reason to answer the door? I was glad to visit our IC site today, Burton & Burton and find these Peacock Feathers.
I must admit I've been reflecting upon this word, Meraki, since Wednesday when I met a recently retired coworker at a new coffee house named just that. It is a Greek verb pronounced l may-rah-kee l. Which means to do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself in your work. I was thrilled to learn a new word that was so positive. I shared it with a friend of mine (and yours) and she suggested we create something using this Greek to us word. Check back in the gallery today.
My card used the Tin Can Mail Peacock Feather Mirror. I stamped it and embossed it with 3 colors of EP. It was fussy cut and colored with Gelatos also. I used a snippet of seam binding at the handle and some bronze micro mini beads for studs on the bottom. Instead of a mirror, I used a recent photo of me in my studio. The Flavia Alphabet stickers spells out Meraki. I embossed over it lightly in detail clear.
I am a visual artist and must be surrounded by objects that spark my imagination. Some of those things include photos of me when I was 5 and 25. Growing older and seeing myself in photos, I wonder where have those girls gone? In my heart of hearts, I am still in each moment. It's the mirror that plays tricks! And yet, I know the art I create is as fresh and vibrant as the pictures.
If you've stayed with me here, I thank you! Meraki describes all of us, don't you think? Do you have a favorite picture of yourself? What age? Is it our ART that keeps us recalling 5?

Well, there you are and you've taught me a new word today. I love reading your posts and finding out how you arrive at your creation. What a sweet 5 yr. old. I do have a pic of me at 5 yrs. and now I'm wondering where that girl went. You've created such an interesting and thought provoking creation today.

Very cool & so artistic, Susan! What a great new word to know! I love the pics in the embossed frame. Since I haven't unpacked any pics yet, none around to view. But I think my fave is one DH took of me (in my 20's) standing on the deck of the Battleship Texas w/ the wind blowing my hair. My hair was really long back then.

Susan, your card is as interesting as your description! Love reading how you think about each element and they always go together perfectly. Bet your girl cave is amazing!
What a thought-provoking post! Great word!!! I think Meraki goes into every one of my cards. I ponder and fiddle and a little something of me goes on every card. Even the most CAS cards! TFS! Your card is amazing. The mirror reflecting your photo is an OH MY! I love seeing your meraki in every piece you create!

I definitely loved reading your write up, Susan! I have a small booklet I made for my mother from age 16 until age 27......she gave it back to me before she died at 99 two years ago. I have the booklet here in my studio and wonder where that young girl went......
Your Card is fabulous and keep it for one of your kids....

You are the Master to my Grasshopper....I bow down. Loved your write up and the new word discovery. You have so many wonderful things on here ..need to go back an browse this card. Your use of microbeads is inspiring...I dread the teeny tiny bead fallout. Fab card. And I always go back to the 5 year old me..mix of tomboy and designer of all of Barbie's fashions.
