I love walks down memory lane! Thank you, Cathy for taking us back down the path. I chose to CAS my very first upload from September 2007. Almost there. I was scared to death. Looking back, I see I've been tearing paper, making collages, and stapling since the beginning! My first card used Stampin' Up's 'Balmy Breezes' and the 'Cheesecloth' background stamp. It was definitely a beginner water color work. And I still need lots of practice...most of mine are slap it on, mist and blot, or sprinkle and hope!!!
I had to ponder awhile where I was going to take a remake. I first stamped the 'Balmy Breeze' palm in the foreground and embossed. Made a mask for a full moon. I used 5 shades of distress and oxide inks to create my night sky and the sandy waters' edge. Adding some stencil work here and there and a spritz there and here! The sand was stippled.
And then I thought, well it's been almost 12 years...that Balmy Breeze palm has grown!!! ...and I just happened to have this awesome grove of palm trees from Technique Junkies already stamped and embossed. It took awhile to fussy cut, but as I did, I realized my style has grown just as the original palm tree has.
I stapled the grove at their base with navy staples and popped the fronds above and out from the little palm. Through a few stars above, embossing them with starlight ep.
The big fella, moon was from Deep Red...I love the thought around him. I embossed him and colored with Gelatos.
On the edge of the sand, I stamped a SA Wendy Vecchi sentiment: The Artist is nothing with the gift, but the gift is nothing without the work.
I can't wait to see what everyone has remembered! And thanks for the gift of your comments.

Yes, your style has evolved as have our supplies..like distress inks, etc...But i like that you've stuck with what works like your mini staples ;) I love the stenciled sky and that moon...I sure can agree with what it says by the moon..I'm often in my own little world...as I think you are, too, my friend.

Wow! What a transformative creation this is, and so fun to read about too. I love how you say your style has grown right along with the palm tree you embossed and fussy cut out and added to this card. That is terrific. I also like how you changed this to a nighttime card compared to your original daytime card. I am super impressed! ~Karen.

Artsy and fun at the same time - I like the depth you created with the multi toned, splotched/stenciled background...and those palm trees in the foreground? Perfection!
Your new take on your first upload is a feast for the eyes...I will also add that your first card sings to my heart! It brings to mind carefree, lazy days on the beach in HI with my hubby. Thanks for sharing both cards, it was well worth the journey down memory lane.

Susan, this is spectacular! As has been your work from the beginning. I loved seeing the torn paper and staples on your first upload!! How fun that your palm grove has grown. Your BG is amazing and, yes, that moon with it's sentiment is awesome! P.S. my watercoloring skills have progressed pretty much the same as yours--slap it on and hope for the best!

Terrific soft spring colors on your first card and totally love the moonlight night card for the remake. It is always fun to go back through our old cards and remake some especially with our new skills that we learn over the years of trying new techniques and new tools.

The tree has grown and so has your talent! Love the whimsy of this scene, especially that fabulous moon. Your bg prints make me itch to play with paint and inks. 152 days and counting ;)
