This card was not meant to be like this but sometimes it happens. I start on one path and find myself totally on another and just can't stop.
This is for a challenge hosted by a dear friend known to many, Sharon aka smadson. The challenge was to make a card relating to the sea and also combine it with one of the weekly challenges. This was end February but life has been busy lol.
I got out all my stamps relating to the sea and suddenly remember that another dear friend, sis Vicki aka Hawaiian had sent me some stamped mermaids. I'd also been through the weekly challenges and narrowed it down to the sketch, mix media and fold cards.
So that is where I have decided that I will make a fold card and out of the middle will pop my seascape and a mermaid. Well that was the plan.
I started creating a sea BG....spraying, squirting, doing everything possible to give it some colours. I loved it. By now my cardstock was so wet but undeterred and after blasting it with heat, I decide to get out my best SU cardstock and start scoring. I'm thinking this is easy. I'll paste my beautiful seascape on the top.
I want bubbles so out comes the embossing pad. Yep I'm liking this even if I have the popped dots on the back and not on my lovely coloured front. Oh well..I never do get these EFs the right way. Oh to be different.
First the instructions tell me to cut a border. I want a wavy one..after all there's waves in the sea. I check the instructions and even turn my iPad upside down to make sure I have got the paper the same way as mine on my desk lol. Yep got it. Die cut it and I am thinking I'm sure this is not supposed to be this way.
Doh..I have cut it on the wrong side. How did that happen? I am wondering.....can I start again. I reread the instructions and think my heads not in the mood for this today and I need to get this card done. So that's when I start cutting up my beautiful 9x5.1/4 BG into 3s. I'm thinking maybe I can do something with 3s now....oops that's another week.
By now I am also thinking maybe I should have scrapped...it was either scrap or make a card today. Ok...plan B. I'll use one of my strips and add the stitched wavy bit I've thrown in the bin and still make my seascape.
I am back on track. Mermaids....one or two. I would have liked 3 but this cards not big enough. Two it is. Coloured, sprayed with gold...which you can't see but these girls shine, and fussy cut. I am thinking I wish I had a die cut for these.
That is when seashells pop into my head. I'm stamping, colouring and fussy cutting a few. I want to layer them along the edge of my card...this was the plan for my fold card but we all know that has gone out of the window now. I am laying them on the card with my mermaids and yep this will work.
This is when I need to say stop to myself but I am a filler...I see a bare space and fill it. I have got a spare shell and this mermaid can look as though she's touching it.
I see my lovely BG scraps and on goes another one...I love texture. Shame that I have now covered up most of the colours. It really is not just blue or green but has purples, pinks, yellows, orange...seashells and mermaids seem to have covered it up lol.
That is when I realise I need a sentiment. I was tempted to just put a small hello on the white wave but away I go stamping and embossing the friends one. Yep I did forget to use my little pad thingy first. I have never claimed to be a smart or good stamper lol.
Last touch...it needs more sparkle...bling added and lots of Wink of Stella. The photo does not show it but it is glistening just like seashells in the sea.
It is busy, it is to do with the sea, it is mixed media and it has taken me over 3 hours.
Maybe I should have scrapped after all lol. Seriously I loved making this...I am very inky and had fun.
Sharon, I hope it fits the challenge....I also think I got the week wrong for the mixed one but as we are ahead and you are behind in time maybe I can get away with this...lol.
Sis Vicki, thank you for the mermaids. I hope I did you proud.
TFL. Happy day

Oh, Jayne, I love the journey you took making this card. I sometime take journeys like this when I make cards. But, when I am done, I don’t have the patience to explain! LOL. Your card is fabulous; I love the colors, the fussy cut seashells, the mermaids, and all the mixed media part of it! It fits both challenges beautifully! And, Jayne, it didn’t matter what week for a weekly challenge. Thank you so much for adding this beauty to the gallery for my challenge!

Gorgeous card! I often make a background that’s so pretty and promptly cover it up for another purpose. Thanks for playing with our Mix-Ability forum challlenge. Come play again anytime!
