I found this card on Pinterest, and liked the idea of stamping within the leaf. I don't have a large leaf die, though, but I do have an old Fiskars template with leaf shapes on it. The template is actually made to be used with a Shape Cutter (I think that's the name), which I also have. But I've generally had trouble with cutting into the shape with that tool on just plain cardstock, and since I wanted this out of heavier watercolor paper, figured I'd better not risk it. So I flipped the template over, and traced the maple leaf shape with a pencil on the back of my paper. Then I fussy cut the leaf. A bit more work than using a die, but I still think it came out well!
I stamped the cattails from "Serene Silhouettes" & a greeting from "Happy Messages" in Versafine, and heat embossed with clear powder. I inked the whole leaf with Crushed Olive Distress ink, then came in from the edges with Peeled Paint. I finished by going around the very edge with Forest Moss. I made sure to blend the inks together to get a smooth transition, with a "glow" in the middle of the leaf. Finally, I spritzed the leaf with water from my Distress Sprayer, let that sit for a few seconds, then daubed up the water/ink with a dry cloth. Then I glued it to my background, leaving the stem loose.
I die cut 2 buttons from Craft-a-Board, and used Peeled Paint & Forest Moss Distress inks with a foam blending tool to color them. I cut a length of white crochet twine, and used a Pitch Black Adirondack paint dauber to color it. When the paint had dried, I threaded each end of the twine through the buttons & secured it on the back with a little Scor Tape. I wrapped the middle part of the twine around the stem of the leaf, added a bit of glue to that to hold it in place, and then glued my buttons down. I also squirted some glue under the stem and held the leaf to my panel until the glue had set up. I tied a bow from the rest of the twine, and used some Ranger Multi Medium Matte to glue it to the leaf. When that had dried, I matted the panel with black cardstock, to echo the black stamping, and adhered that to a white card base.
