This anniversary card was made as a Design Team card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Challenge #396, with an optional theme of "flower power". (https://TryStampinOnTuesday.blogspot.com)
I hadn't used my lovely Stampin' Up! (SU) "Botanical Gardens" Designer Series Paper (DSP) in a long time, so when the optional theme was "flower power" for this challenge, I knew exactly what I wanted my background to be.
I cut one piece each of two different patterns of the DSP paper to 4"x 5-1/2", then cut the larger blossomed pattern at an angle on my trimmer. I glued this atop the tiny flower patterned piece with Tombow. Before gluing it to the SU Cajun Craze card base, I found a piece of random orange ribbon that had been on a gift I had received, and cut a strip to hide the angled seam. I glued this down with a SU tape runner, and wrapped it around the back. This main panel was then glued to the card base using Tombow glue.
One of the reasons I love this patterned paper is the hibiscus flowers in one of the patterns. I decided to use that pattern on the bottom of my front panel, but I needed something bold as the center feature of the design.
My DH had given me a Brother ScanNCut2 for Christmas, so I went looking on the Internet for a free hibiscus .SVG file. I edited it with the software that comes with the scanner/cutter to fit the size I wanted on the front of the card, and cut the pieces out with SU Cajun Craze, Rich Razzleberry (for the flower center), and Old Olive cardstock. I used the paper piecing technique to assemble the blossom, using a piece of Scotch Tape on the back to hold it together. The tiny yellow pollen-covered anthers were punched with a small hole punch, and glued to the end of the stigma at the end of the flower style with Tombow.
The assembled hibiscus flower was mounted on the card front using several pieces of adhesive foam strips. The hibiscus leaves were part of the cut file, so I used the SU Cajun Craze leaves as a "drop shadow" for the SU Old Olive leaves by off-setting the orange ones slightly to the right and down, then gluing them together. These leaves were then simply glued under the blossom directly onto the card front using Tombow.
The sentiment was stamped using SU Cajun Craze ink onto a strip of SU Hello Honey cardstock, then die cut with the flagged banner from SU's "Bunch of Banners" framelits die set. This particular die cuts it's on mat, so I cut a second banner using SU Cajun Craze, then taped the banner and its mat together on the back with a piece of Scotch tape. It was mounted on the card front with a piece of adhesive foam strip.
If you have a stamp and dies for the hibiscus (or whatever flower you choose), this card will be easy to make. I'm rating its difficulty level as a "2" out of a possible "5". I think it will make a great anniversary card for our friends who were married in Hawaii!
