I made three of these this afternoon to send to my sisters to start our official countdown for our 15th annual Cape Hatteras family vacation. We rent a huge beach house and we four girls, along with all the brother-out-laws, go spend a wonderful time together honoring our parents, and reminiscing about all the wonderful times they provided for us at Cape Hatteras. They took us there every year of our lives for camping, fishing, and swimming. We had such wonderful times. We have lost our parents and no longer have our family home to go home to. Our Hatteras family reunion is our guarantee for all of us to be under the same roof together at least once a year since we live in four different states.
I used a scruffy brush to create the sand and ocean. I used liquid applique to make the ocean foam by applying it with a small paint brush. I sketched out the little book and cut it out to lay on the arm of the chair. We always love to pretend we are reading while out at the beach...but truthfully, we hardly stop talking and laughing long enough to get in to many pages.
I hope you don't mind the family story that accompanies this card.

This has to be my favorite of all beach cards I have seen! And your story is every bit as wonderful. It reminds me of my childhood and now my sister, brother and cousins and their families do the same thing on Long Island Sound where our family's summer home was. Living in California and having disabled children whom I cannot travel with does not allow me to be part of that yearly reunion, but I can just imagine what that time means to you all. You crack me up with your book comment...so keep taking the books if you want but don't stop the talking and laughing!!!
Anyway, I trulely love your awesome card: the texture, the colors, the whole scene-everything about it, and will put it right into my favorites. I will go back to it for inspiration, but can't imagine ever being able to make anything nearly as nice! TFS and have a GREAT vacation!!

Brought tears to my eyes.........don't ever stop telling the stories that go along with these. They are as precious as the cards themselves.

This is a beautiful card, along with a beautiful story, it made me all teary eyed in a good way. I think it is wonderful that you and your sisters do this once a year. There's something to be said about bonding with family, it's a very special time. I'm so sorry that you and your sisters are all in different states. I'm very fortunate to have my entire family here in Florida.
