I made several background pieces on Friday for the Mixability Challenge, but because the technique involved patiently waiting for at least 6 hours I hadn't had a chance to turn them into cards yet. It's a take on the shaving cream marbling bg technique only instead of pulling "prints" right away you let the shaving cream dry out which gives an oxidized ink look with more air bubbles. I decided to flip the sketch for a horizontal view. Instead of greenery I used my burlap ribbon which I distressed the best I could with the cross weave of this burlap being thin, fishing line like mesh. For my sentiment, I went with an ombre effect using my MISTI. I stamped first in slate then added a second layer on just the lower half in Slate again. Finally I added some Going Grey to the lowest parts. I ended up using a marker to ink just the swirl part of my bg stamp and adding some wind above the sentiment.

Wow there's a lot to like here! First, turning the sketch on its side is brilliant and works so well here. The distressed burlap adds to the "airy" feel of your sentiment and the two step (or is it one-and-a-half?) stamping on the words creates a great ombre look. TFS!

What a beautiful and interesting card, Gail!

I played with the technique a few days ago and even though my ink was light I still pulled some great bubble backgrounds. Yours looks fabulous in pink and gray! I love the flourish on the base and the fibers are so interesting to look at!
