It's challenge play time again with Nancy Williams (nwilliams6), using the set Natural Beauty to make a background.
I started out making my background. I stamped the leaf in a diagonal row 3 times. Then on the opposite corner, I stamped the single flower in rows. I used the acetate inking technique to add color, but instead of bending my acetate to get the ink on my paper, I bent the paper and dipped it into the ink on the acetate, allowing me to be fairly precise as to placement of color. I did a diagonal rainbow of colors more or less corresponding to the rows of stamping. Then I stamped the word stamp all over the background using vintage photo ink. I really liked it... but wait...
Then I created the main image. I stamped the floral spray and colored the green with watercolor pencils and blender pen. I stamped the flowers several more times on scraps and cut them out and apart, so I could just sponge the edges of the petals with salty ocean. I then glued all those tiny pieces back onto the main image. I backed both the main image and the background with black.
I wanted to add some crochet, so I made up a little edging in a dark ecru, but I wanted it even darker, so I pressed some vintage photo on my kraft sheet, spritzed with water, and proceeded to dirty it up a bit. Somewhere along the line, I managed to get some spots of brown ink on my main image panel - NOOOOO!
OK, now what? I could either redo that image, but it was a lot a work. OR, I could just go with it and see where it led, which is exactly what I decided to do. I dirtied (really dirty) up that panel, dirtied up the background, did some tearing, doodling, distressing. And I was liking it more and more. I stamped and cut out some more of the leaves and single flower, made them dirty (what fun), and proceeded to put it all together. To accommodate the depth of the crochet piece, it was necessary to raise the main image and some of the leaves on dimensional tape.
Although my cards are usually pretty CAS, neat and clean, I really love how this one turned out. Must be that underneath the outward neatness, I'm really a messy person.

Wow, Melody! This is gorgeous! I think that was a happy mistake because this card is the result. It is so beautiful with the torn edges, the color here and there, the flower petals and leaves layered up. Fabulous card!

Melody, this is definitely wow. I love how your happy accident changed your card. I love the background and how your flowers look. The textile medium of your crocheting and twine look amazing. Thanks so much for playing along with my challenge. I hope you have a blessed day.

Melody, this is soooo cool! I love your bg - great way to use two of the images and change up the colors and use some great techniques. The flower panel is wonderful, your crocheted piece is fab, and the whole thing is amazing. You totally blew this challenge away - the Feb Natural Beauty challenge and the MIX challenge. Hugz
