Good morning or evening as the case may be.
This card is for Polly's Tickle a TEApotter challenge for this week to use a Van Gogh painting as inspiration and my card is "Starry Night" what a brilliant idea Polly.
I knew as soon as I read the Teapot Tuesday challenge found here; MMTPT497~ January 30, 2018~Lend an Ear by peeps321 at Splitcoaststampers what I wanted to do and what I would use, it was a stencil that came with the Stampendous stamp set and while it was waves it would have worked well. Would have is the key word here.
First I did the background using the Smack & Squirt Technique - one of susie australias favourites but also almost identical to this weeks technique challenge found here; TLC675 ~ Acetate Inking ~ {01/29/18} by k dunbrook at Splitcoaststampers, the only difference is I used baking paper instead of acetate to smack the ink pads down.
The advantage of using baking paper is you just screw it all up when you have finished and pop it in the bin !!!!!!
Really happy with how the background turned out and then went to put the stencil on.....couldn't find it anywhere, searched high and low crawling around my craft room floor patting the carpet.....eyesight isn't that good it was after midnight and the stencil was a thin clear one. After 3/4 of an hour I though I wonder if I through it out with the baking paper and sure enough there it was completely screwed up in the paper. I quickly flattened it out and hit it with my heat gun then sandwich it between my Big Shot cutting plates and weighed it down with a house brick (yes I have a house brick in my craft room, it's amazing what you can use it for) I then went to bed.
Fast forward to next evening, I was completely over the stencil thing and decided to use the wave stamp in the same set but first I stamped Santa and his sleigh and the greeting and went over them with clear embossing powder then stamped straight over the top with the wave stamp wiping the ink off the stamped image. I highlighted the wave / clouds with silver Wink of Stella and then again with white Wink of Stella. the misty stars were created by smooching Distress Oxide - Antique Linen and then going over this with Distress Oxide - Twisted Citron using a smooching brush and the rest they say is history.
If you managed to get to the end of this tale hope you had a giggle and or learned something ie; check your backing paper before you toss it.
Cheers Marg

Yes, Marg, I made it to the end and was giggling! It's amazing what can make us go mad looking for something. But truly, what a GORGEOUS sky you've created, and I LOVE the Santa you stamped. It's totally magical, and thank you for sharing your special "midnight ride" with us!! LOL and hugs, sweet friend! So glad you are back! Now you need to send me some mojo! xoxo

Your card is pure magic Marg! I love the idea of using a wave in the sky...it so resembles Van Gogh's swirly night sky.I did enjoy your story and I, too, have misplaced stamping embellishments, tools ,masks, etc and had to look in my garbage bin. I'm so glad you liked the challenge...your card is a wonderfully artistic addition to the gallery.

Your background is amazing...and your story did give me giggles. It can be so frustrating searching for something you know you have, I'm glad you found it. Ultimately, the card is lovely and a masterful use of this week's color challenge colors. Lovely!

I didn't want your story to end Marg. What an adventure you had creating this magical masterpiece. I live it to bits, from the colours to the design and the creative use of waves in the sky. Every itty bitty inch is great! I use Aldi aluminium foil, but I shall give baking paper a whirl. I'm still laughing about d brick!
