Today's Clean & Simple challenge, CAS448 Apples to Apples 9/24/17, was to make a card with an apple theme. Needing a card to go with a care package to my brother-in-law who is recovering from oral surgery, I immediately thought of the saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away!" That was the inspiration for this very low-tech card.
My intent was to whip out a a very fast, easy to construct card with an embossed card front, one Apple and a sentiment panel. This project turned into a HOT MESS when I got the bright idea to kick it up a notch with brayered ink on the dry embossed tree....ink from the brayer totally covered the open area at the bottom and ruined the card front. Ugh! To rescue the card, I cut off the front embossed panel and fussy-cut around a good portion of the tree and attached to a new card base. Everything was going swimmingly with the assembly of the apple (3 punched layers), until I decided to get fancy and add some light grey Copic for detailing, ala Jen McGuire. Yikes, it worked for Jen!!!?!!! Covered that with several coats of Spectrum Noir clear sparkle in an effort to brighten it up a bit, and then hand cut some little leaves/stem just to make extra work. The finishing touch was the wavy sentiment banner. After searching through my banner die collection, which is huge, I resorted to hand-cutting the tag....and then bent the silly thing attaching it to the card front!
As I said earlier, hot mess from start to finish!
This 10-minute card turned into a couple hour "how am I going to fix that?" session. Ha... So much for fast and simple.
It's nice to have it done and on its way to dear BIL. And it was fun to be challenged in unexpected ways with this CAS Apple challenge. Thanks for swinging by to take a peek!

Great recovery from a likely looking disaster. This is what stamping is all about - nothing ever turns out the way you want it to - but the art in it all is the recovery and a very pretty card as an end result.

Had to laugh reading your story of the ten minute card! I laughed because it has happened to me as well! But in the end, your card looks great! I am sure you BIL will love it as even without the story;)

Oh, too funny! I have had cards like that! I especially liked the part about looking through all your dies and then cutting it by hand. I thought I was the only one... . Thanks for persevering, though! Your end result is perfect!
