Wow, what a week!!! Our daughter gave herself a concussion last Tuesday so I stayed in the house for five days keeping an eye on her. Then on Sunday when I realized that Irma was headed our way I ran out to the store to find the shelves fairly empty! Our son came home from UWG since they canceled classes due to Irma's impending arrival which meant I needed some extra special meals. Next up I worked on a few emergency preparations just in case we lost power. Sure enough, we did! It was a bit of an adventure! The winds were something. I was torn between watching the hummingbirds at the back of the house perched on swaying branches to checking out the trees rocking and rolling in the front of the house!
When my husband took down the humming bird feeder for fear a strong wind might send it into our bay window, I asked our son to attach it to the porch railing so that the humming birds could still eat. Those little birds were WET and hungry. They zoomed back and forth from the safety of the tree branches to the feeder. It was fascinating to watch them. The branches underneath them would sway so hard that it would unsettle them from their perch and they would flutter up and then land back down then they would zoom to the porch for a quick drink and start the process all over again.
Here's my interpretation of Irma's visit to GA! I changed the hummingbirds to butterflies since I don't have any small humming bird dies, I added a branch and with the embossing folder technique, I added a swirling background!
Our power was only out 9 hours but the internet was down until just this minute so woohoo, I am up and running again!!!

Fabulous card! What a back story about how you were inspired. The colors are terrific and I can see how they could represent strong wind. Very cool. The branch in white and the butterflies really pop against the black frame. Very nicely done! It's amazing that you could make a card with all that was going on. If you are like me, the card-making actually helps! Hope your daughter is on the mend. Glad everyone is safe! Thanks the awesome sample card for the sketch!

Angie, this is amazing how your card depicts everything your family went through this week with the hurricane. Glad that you and your family are safe. Enjoyed the story about the hummingbirds. Our feeder is located near my kitchen window, and when a storm is brewing, they are fluttering madly to drink. Enjoyed viewing your lovely card this morning. TFS

You are amazing Angie, creating and photographing this fabulous card in the middle of a hurricane! Your story could be the opening scene from a movie! So glad you are all safe my friend.

First I was struck by the beauty of this card, Angie! I love your colorful, swirly oval panel and the delicate die cuts. The stark black background against the other elements is so striking - stunning card. Secondly, I loved, loved reading your story of Irma at your home. I could just picture the little hummingbirds and you and your family keeping watch over them ~ so glad you survived the storm, and got some extra time with your son, as well!
