As has been my weekly custom this year, I read a chapter in the book "50 Truths Worth Knowing" and used that story as an inspiration for making a card.
This chapter is Nelson's story. He has two daughters. Each one was born prematurely. Julia, the first one was critically ill due to her size and under-developed body. He watched the medical staff work feverishly to save her life. He called the NICU the "miracle ward" as a result. He and his wife joyfully took Julia home about a month after she was born.
Second daughter Valerie also was premature and they once again spent time in that "miracle ward" watching Valerie grow enough to go home with them.
Nelson now experiences "giggles, ballet slippers basketball practice, and two bright and inquisitive girls." He will forever be grateful to the doctors, NICU staff, and modern medicine... and he'll be grateful for those two precious girls who call him Daddy.
