Today's Free For All is hosted by sweet Robin (Stamperrobin), and she wants to see "What's In Your Garden". She gave a few examples so I chose one of them - the mermaid. Great challenge, Robin!!
I worked all afternoon on this card and was happy with it until I added Clear Wink of Stella to the mermaid's tail! I went overboard and created a mess. I started to not upload the card; however, I decided I spent too much time on it and I would upload it regardless of how bad it may look.
I had no idea that the Wink of Stella would wipe out Copic coloring, or at least that is what happened to me today. When I added Clear Wink of Stella to the mermaid's tail, I was stunned to see my coloring and shading diminish to the point of almost disappearing. I tried to correct the problem by recoloring the tail with Copics; on top of the "Stella"! Well, don't do that!! I had a bigger mess. And on top of that, my Copic pen leaked! See the big splat of color beneath her tail and onto the shell? Oh well!
I received my mermaid stamp today and wanted to see what was on YouTube about this stamp. I found Ilina Crouse's on coloring the image. I tried to replicate her work! I know, no one can replicate her wonderful artwork. But I tried. Ilina, thanks for your inspiration.
Robin, this one is for you!!
Thanks for viewing and commenting!

She is adorable with lots of character. Look at the bright side, she still has a beautiful face and hair. Isn't that all a woman really wants anyway? It's a shame after all that time you spent coloring and encountered such difficulties. I know what you mean though, I ruined a copic marker with wink of Stella, make sure it's all out of the nib or it will ruin your marker. I had my copic to leak, just like you said and just did that part over and stuck it on top of the bad image, and liked the dimension it created. Stamping hugs

It is still a beautiful card, Bev. I have not used my WOS lately. Last time I did, it created a big blob. I do appreciate everything you said in your description. I am learning. I am glad you went ahead and posted this. I know it is discouraging when you have worked on it all day. This seems to be the nature of getting a card made, I am finding. Anyways, you have used very pretty colors and matting too, to showcase your image. That sand looks great too!

Lovely card! Before I read your description, I didn't even notice the mistakes you mention. I was too busy being impressed by the wonderful job you did on her hair, as well as the great water and sand textures you achieved.

Bev, you had better put the kettle on, we need to sit down and have a long talk!!!!! This is BRILLIANT!!!!! I had to go searching for the 'big splat'....I thought it was fabulous shading. I am sorry that you wiped out all your copic colouring, but for those of us who can't control Copics, that is music to our ears. As soon as I get home, I'm going to put my WOS pens right next to my Copics. I love every inch of your amazing under water garden. xxx

OMGoodness Bev, I'm with Susie, I had to go search to see what was wrong after reading your description~~~!!! You silly girl, do NOT tell us what you think is wrong, for the most part YOU are the only one who will ever notice!!! (I know, I should talk eh?...I am also trying not to be so hard on myself, Susie has to get after me all the time, heehee!
OK, I LOVE your card! I love your mermaid and in fact it has inspired me to use a mermaid I just got this weekend at the stamp escape from Judikins. Hopefully a challenge will come up.
I love the colors you chose for your mermaid. I especially love your water with the light shining through, that is so hard to accomplish!
Beautiful! Hey, I just thought of something you could add to your card to cover the leak (BTW, that happens to everyone at least once!) You could add a big pearl! Actually, when I first looked at your card I believed it to be part of the tail, so...
Don't worry, be happy! It looks beautiful and I'm honored that you would make a mermaid for me!!! Thanks for playing!

Now Bev, go right back and edit your description...i looked for that big mistake and did not find anything but pure talent here. I thought the "blob" was part of the image to give depth to the shell. I love the coloring and water by on this. Faved.

It's beautiful Bev! I too used WOS on my card for this challenge, on top of my SN coloring, but I had no problems. I have to say though, I really can't see the boo-boos that would even make you THINK about not uploading this beauty! Hugs, my friend!

What a lovely mermaid and scene, Bev!! And I am with all the others in saying that "the blob" doesn't look like a mistake to the rest of us - so glad you posted it!

You are definitely too hard on yourself! I would not have noticed a thing amiss without your description of what went wrong. I have had WoS do weird and terrible things to my water coloured images too. Your mermaid looks wonderful! I love the watery background you made for her! Super card!
