I'm not usually into bright colors, but I tend to like them better in Bible journaling for some reason. I am in a Bible study on Humility based on Mary's life and we were reading mainly the Magnificat and also looked back on the verses about her response to the angel's announcement of the upcoming birth of Jesus. I admit that I was doodling in my math notebook during our Algebra 2 math lecture this morning....mainly practicing writing as I took notes, but also tried out some leafy borders. I know, I'm a bad example to my homeschool students. Anyway, when I saw the Pantone colors from the Free For All Challenge today, I thought they would work well for my page. The opposite page has similar colors but is more muted (I did wipe off my brush between colors onto the other page to help tie the pages together.) First, I prepped the page by scraping Matte Gel over the page. I started by penciling in my leafy border. I should have colored my leaves next, but didn't have those supplies upstairs so skipped to using the yellow and orange Gelatos around the section of verses I wanted to frame. I first blended with my fingers, but with the pages prepped, it didn't blend as well as I wanted. I then used a wet aqua brush to smooth out the colors a bit more in the orange area and also to get around the leaves better. I first used a pink Gelato, but it wasn't as bright as I wanted so I then poured out a tiny bit of Picked Raspberry Spray and brushed it on after diluting it a little. I mixed Turqoise and White Gelato for the light blue. I originally meant to use a calligraphy pen on the lettering, but I was really making a mess of it. Here's where the prepped pages come in so handy....I just took a wet towel and wiped them off! I had also doodled with a Sharpie in one corner but I was able to wipe that off as well! I then used my lapis blue color for the lettering. I tried to use color pencil for my leaves but that wasn't "sticking" so I then used some paint by dipping a fine brush into my jar of Distress Paint....this was too opaque so I watered it down a bit. It also wasn't quite the color of "greenery" so I added some Yellow Gelato tones. I used a darker green colored pencil like the "Kale" to add depth to the leafy vine. As I worked, the soprano solo of the Magnificat from Handel's Messiah was playing in my mind interspersed with played at a Beth Moore conference I attended based on the phrase "Blessed Is She Who Believed"

Very pretty Bible journaling. Just as long as the students didn't see the doodling and leaf work, it's a secret, right? It's just between you and Splitcoaststampers.
