Last year I made a Christmas sampler as a gift for a friend - and went on to make myself and summer, and then an autumn one. I spend my day off this week working on my own winter one, using some similar squares to the first one I made, and changing some around a little.
Each square is 2 1/4", matted onto a 2 3/8" square of black. The 9" white square is scored at 3" and 6" on each side, helping to place each small square accurately.
Top Dog dies polar bear, mulberry paper, sponged sky, gold stars, larger one is Memory Box Star of Wonder
Originally I had a sprig of pine foliage and ornament in this position but DH didn't like it. So I replaced it with a stencilled background (TCW trellis, wild honey, scattered straw) and a Verve Joyous Noel poinsettia stamped and embossed with gold, and coloured with Brusho acrylic mist in scarlet.
Top Dog Dies penguins on an embossed (Sizzix ef) snowy background, more mulberry card for the snow.
Sue Wilson ivy, handcut holly, punched berries, LOTV tags stamped on kraft. The background is embossed and sponged heavily a la faux patina, with some gold embossing and chunky ep.
IO snowflake die cut from white card with double-sided adhesive, burnished with glitter. Background is Brushos and some acrylic paint dotted in. This sparkles amazingly.
Serendipity Stamps bird die cut from white card and sponged. IO CAC Pine for the background, stamped with Forest Moss on card sponged with Antique Linen. Memory Box Grove Branch for his perch.
Cuttlebug snowman and trees, Darice ef sponged for the background, pearlescent card for the snowy foreground.
Merry & Bright deer stamped, fussy cut and added to a sponged and spritzed background, along with some IO birch trees cut from a dictionary page.
Dee's Distinctively stacker tree cut from watercolour paper coloured with Brushos, embossed with Textile ef and lightly embossed with gold EP. Background is sponged, with white Brusho powder and chunky white EP added afterwards. Mulberry card for the snow. The little robins are IO Resting Birds.

This is beautiful & a great idea scoring between the squares. Not only did it make it easier to place them but it really adds more dimension to your project. TFS!
